Poetry Is a Mirror

{November 26, 2012}   30 Poems in November: Poem #26

If only my heart turned blue

Blue like the amicable sky

If only my eyes turned grey

So grey when it’s going to rain

If only my lips turned pink

Pink like a rabbit’s nose

If only my tears turned black

Black like a midnight sky

If only my cheeks turned red

Red like my heart

Pumping, pumping.

Escaping from the Black

Black is the emptiness I have inside.

Black is the pain I have in my broken heart.

Black is the loneliness of my life.

Black is the tears that go down my cheeks.

Black is the confusion that I have with my life.

Black is the room I sleep in at night where I let everything out.

Black is the blindfold that I have on my eyes,

That doesn’t let me escape from my suffering.

Black is what I see when I forgive over and over again

And no change.

The Gift

God gifted me with

an amazing mom who put a roof over my

head, who buys me everything I need when she can and

always made sure there was food

on the table every time I came home,

God gifted me with

an amazing husband who loves me for

who I am, who cares for me so much

who since day one had eyes and still has

eyes for me, who since day one has been

so faithful to me and will always be

who gifted me with two beautiful boys.

God gifted me with

two  gorgeous boys who always make me

laugh, who always surprise me with all

the new things they learn and do

who always remind me that they’re the

reason why I’m still standing strong

that remind me that I don’t give up

because I want to give them the best

life ever.
